🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Dutch (Yalena Yardeen)
Age: Early 30s
Canon: Killjoys
Canon Point: End of Season 2
Character History: here
Canon Abilities: As an intelligent woman, Dutch has quite an interesting and comprehensive set of skills between the royal harem she was raised, her tutor, and her time as a Killjoy (Reclamation Agent).

The harem taught her the skills necessary to impress and marry a prince, including proper etiquette, how to dance, sing, and play some instruments, as well as how to observe and read people.

Her tutor trained her to be an assassin from a very young age. As he taught many ways to kill, Dutch quickly became skilled in hand-to-hand combat, operating covertly to complete her missions, as well as how to handle weapons with precision and accuracy. She's also a self-proclaimed torture expert (gross).

Inventory: Clothes on her back, her handheld communicator/data pad, her firearm with holster, and several concealed blades on her person.

🦋 Personality

Option 2: You may instead choose words from the following list to expand upon as your personality section. Elaborate on what this word means to your character, specifically their thoughts about it. For Canon Characters, you can choose five words. For Original Characters, you will need to choose seven words. Keep the word count to 100-300 per choice.
  • Green

  • The Green, a plasma that contains within it a neuroparasite. To Dutch, it’s complicated and infuriating, altering the course of not just her life, but those of The Quad. The parasite attempts to perfect its host, and when it bonds with a human, they become Hullen. With that comes superior strength, stamina, and the ability to heal. Her father figure Khylen, the same man who turned her into a weapon, was Hullen. Dutch wanted him dead, or so she thought. In the end, when he sacrificed himself to destroy Arkyn’s source of the green plasma, she wept as he died in her arms. Complicated.

Then there’s Aneela. Turns out she’s actually the daughter of Khylen and Dutch looks identical to her, but he doesn’t know how or why, just that she's long since gone batshit crazy. It’s why he chose to tutor her. See, becoming Hullen is often a messy, dangerous procedure, but those who are emotionally detached, broken even have a better chance of surviving it. So, he broke mentally and emotionally from a young age to save her when he eventually made her Hullen. She’s still processing all this brand spanking new information.

  • Dead

  • That’s what happens to people around her. Her husband died by her own hand. Her father figure just died in her arms. The Arkyn plasma is now dead as well. Her friend Pawter died right in front of her trying to save Westerley. She couldn’t stop it from happening.

Dutch has nightmares of death. Of the ones at her hands, the ones she couldn’t stop, and the ones still to come that will likely be because of her. She sees the lifeless eyes of her Killjoy partners and found family D’avin and John in pools of blood. The guilt is constant.

It’s also what she does best. Making people dead. It’s about time she embraced it. Might as well use the skills she’s only honed as a Reclamation Agent to fight the war against the invading alien species, even if it will likely get everyone dead in the process.

    Dead or Hullen.

  • Dance

  • Dutch has learned that there are many ways to dance. There’s the typical sort with a partner or by oneself to music. It’s not something she’s enjoyed for quite some time. Even when she dances with D’avin as a way to try and mend the broken trust from when he tried to kill her, it’s too intimate, and she feels too vulnerable. She can’t continue.

One dancing she quite enjoys is against an opponent, and yes absolutely she prefers to lead. Whether it’s sparring with a partner to relieve stress and avoid dealing with her emotions and problems, or hand to hand combat in the thick of a mission. There’s a thrill of winning, of surviving, of taking down her opponent, particularly when they’re much bigger than her.

Then there’s the horizontal mambo, an even better way to avoid dealing with life like an adult. She’s even been known to work out her issues with visits to the local sexxors. It’s a little messier with someone she cares about (a friend), but sometimes that happens too. As a note, Dutch prefers leading here too.

Negotiations and persuasion sometimes proceed as less physical parley, but require intellectually delicate maneuvering that can often flow similarly to dancing. It’s about give and take, when to lead and when to follow. As a Killjoy, she often must reign in her impulsive, emotional urges to commit violence to instead navigate through the mission via the art of clever words, a sultry look, or a strategic silence.

  • Sin

  • After murdering her husband, her last mission for her supposed freedom, Yalena flees her sins and chooses to become Dutch. She surrounds herself with people who fall on the morally good side of grey, starting with John Jacobis, who she meets when he attempts to steal her ship. They join the RAC as Killjoy partners, where she can use her skills born and molded through sins to sometimes help people.

If it's something Dutch has learned, sins are in the eye of the beholder, and the history of those atrocities are written by those in power or those who survive. It's usually one and the same. Nine oligarchical families known as The Nine control The Company, which controls the Quad, and they've committed every sin imaginable to squeeze every last joy of profit out of the low born, working classes. It's just good business.

Killjoys aren't supposed to choose a side. It's in the oath. Take no sides. The warrant is all. But the situation in the Quad with The Company, The Nine, and the Hullen has become so dire that Dutch has decided to go to war for it.

  • Child

  • What’s it like to have a relatively normal childhood? It's difficult for Dutch to comprehend anything but her own, which was more or less a charcuterie of trauma. They created a survivor, herself and Khlyen, and as much as she hates to admit it, their messy, complicated relationship built her to be the best chance the revolution has against the Hullen. She avoids thinking about all of it, and few but her closest found family know the intricacies of her childhood.

Despite the cloaking of that personal information, she's never hesitant to be the dagger when it comes to protecting or saving a child, and those who mistreat their own children receive poorly restrained ire. Sure she's projecting, but as far as Dutch's concerned it's well earned collateral damage. Consider it space bounty hunter justice.

    3) Yes, but they either have no ability of their own, or they refuse to trade theirs away; they will buy their court's ability on credit.

Name: Schist
Active Times/Pace: Weekday evenings & weekends (PST). Pace is very life/work dependent and medium to slow.
Brackets/Prose: Either!
Offensive Subjects & Triggers to Avoid: Incest

🦋 In Character

Physical Affection: Yes.
Physical Violence: Yes please.
Relationships: Yes, but she's got commitment issues.
NPC Interaction: Yes.
Psychic & Psionic Information: Dutch's backstory and canon are a whole pile of triggers. She's basically a space bounty hunter that was raised as an assassin. Consent and autonomy are huge for her, so poking around in her head will not be received well. Please reach out OOCly to discuss as this arises.
Magical Information: No magic as of yet.
Medical Information: Appears late 20s to mid 30s, she's in peak physical fitness with the scars from her violent and dangerous occupation.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers Associated with This Character:
End stage capitalism, slavery, murder, child abuse, lack of autonomy, manipulative family, racial purity, race cleansing (of humans by a parasite), scarification, self-harm, religious ideology, torture, death at the hands of uncaring corporation in control. There's quite a bit that sci-fi parallels political reality right now.

If you have a specific trigger please let me know as I might have missed on and I'll add it here.

🦋 Out Of Character

Backtagging: Yes
Threadhopping: Ask first.
Fourthwalling: No.
Not Interested In: Drama and negative CR for the sake of it. Always ask about bigger trigger items such as death, torture, violence, SA, etc. because I may still want to plot and write around it (lead up and aftermath), but writing the actual scene may be difficult depending on what's currently happening in real life personally and globally.
